What Is Self Awareness? Decoding The Paradigms!
What is self awareness? How do you get it? Where do you start? What do you need to look out for? These are questions you need to consider when starting your journey towards knowing yourself and developing a relationship with yourself. There are some tricks and tips along the way to doing this – decoding the paradigms is a good place to start on your way to becoming a true truth seeker!
So what do I mean by decoding the paradigms? First lets start with a very simple definition of what a paradigm is:
‘A paradigm is knowledge reduced to a system’
Our lives are consumed by and exist within and around paradigms. Everything we do is done within a paradigm. Think of it like a series of boxes we have that package information and present it to us in a way that defines life or the system or structure it represents.
Religions are great examples of paradigms. So too political ideologies and science is a great example as well. These paradigms provide us with information that we live and define our lives by. They are important.
However they are also extremely limiting as they define what is possible – and not possible in our lives. Often they espouse and define truth for us – this is not about self awareness. This is about an external truth – and often someone elses truth at that.
What is self awareness then? Its the ability to start decoding the paradigms and seeing them for what they really are in your life – and only you can determine that.
Knowing what is self awareness is knowing the limitations and the existence of the paradigms in your life. Its about thinking outside of the box…or thinking inside of a box – with awareness.
This means starting to see those boxes or those paradigms as tools or guides when appropriate – and downright obstacles to your self awareness and personal development as well. In other words you need to start thinking and feeling for yourself.
What is self awareness then? Its becoming more aware of who it is you really are and who it is you are becoming. Thinking in boxes will inhibit that process in many instances.
Now of course this does not mean that you cannot develop self awareness in a box or given paradigm. That is not what I am saying.
Self awareness is usually due to or because of being aligned to a paradigm or a box. There comes a time though when that paradigm does not have all the answers for those people who are prepared to think or feel – outside of that box.
We see this in the various expressions and interpretations in political and religious structures.
What is self awareness for many of us then is this ability to be able to think and feel for ourselves. Its the ability and the strength to question and to explore the world in which we live.
You will find, and perhaps have found that there comes a time when it gets too painful or too limiting to follow a particular paradigm or truth. Often what eventuates is that once you start becoming aware of the box or the paradigm, that truth starts to become an untruth.
The additional information and awareness you have opened yourself up to has created an inevitable challenge to that paradigm. The result is that either you leave it at that and continue life within that paradigm – or you start to see beyond it.
That choice as I say is up to you. It is not up to the paradigm or those that espouse its brilliance or unquestionable truth – nor obviously is it up to me to determine that for you either.
This is an inside job. Its a mission that determines how you choose to experience your world….and your inner world.
What is self awareness for some is not for others, therefore it cannot be boxed or defined. It is an individual experience. To be an individual and internalized experience means exactly that – it must be your experience.
Decoding the paradigms in your life is about becoming clearer about who it is you are. The more you can be aware of these paradigms and boxes we live with and within, the more you can navigate your way through life – with awareness.
The more you know what is self awareness to you, the more you can use these paradigms or move on from them. You get clarity and inner strength from this.
The point is to live and love with awareness in your life. Be aware of those things and structures that support you – and those that hold you back or inhibit you.
What is self awareness then? Its about living honestly with yourself and not denying yourself the opportunity to find your own truth in life – or untruth. Its about being bold enough and strong enough to decide and determine how you should live, and how you should think about your life. Do this and you become a truth seeker – not a truth acceptor.
